The Skinny Pancake creperie officially opened at the Northshore Mall on March 24th, 2025, marking their first location at a mall. The restaurant is located right off the side of the dining pavilion, across from Caffe Nero.
We visited the establishment Friday, May 2nd. The restaurant itself was very cute and comforting in terms of aesthetics. The cafe, which originated in Vermont, definitely fits in with the mountain/nature vibes. We walk in and immediately hear Noah Kahan songs playing in the background. There were multiple booths, tables and even benches. It’s an interesting set up: you order your food at a counter and then sit at a table and then they bring you your food. When ordering our food, we found the staff to be very nice and approachable. The environment was extremely welcoming and pleasant, and it was not too loud or too quiet.
In terms of the menu, they have a large variety of crepes, both sweet and savory. Along with this, everything on the menu can be made or accommodated to be vegan, including all crepes, All-day breakfast, and sides along with a variety of burgers, wraps, & sandwiches.
Marissa ordered the Heartbreaker crepe which was listed as organic strawberries, bananas and a chocolate hazelnut spread. She really enjoyed it (partially because she likes everything in it).
Sabina ordered the Lovemaker crepe, which came with sliced strawberries and chocolate hazelnut spread in it. The crepe was a delicious balance of decadent chocolate and fresh strawberries, giving a perfect texture combination of fluffy and soft.
As for a savory crepe, we ordered the Chicken Bacon Rancher, which again was very good. The crepe was made of shredded chicken, bacon, caramelized onions, house-made ranch and Cabot cheddar.
We noticed that the crepes tended to be difficult to eat due to the amount of items included in them, even with a knife and fork – although crepes in general tend to be known for that.
For drinks we found a mix of opinions on what we ordered. Sabina and I both ordered shakes (maple and espresso). The maple shake was made vegan and we were all overall very happy with it. The flavor was faint so we would have preferred it to have a little more taste to it.
As for the espresso shake, it tastes exactly like an iced coffee and was not overpowering at all. Although it was good, we agreed that the maple shake was better because we aren’t the biggest fans of coffee. However, if you are, it could be a great option for you.
Sophomore Teagan McGonigal ordered a glass of lemonade which she was extremely disappointed with due to it tasting “more like salty water”. She was also dissatisfied by the two crepes listed above. She claims “The Heartbreaker crepe came very soggy, with a lot of hazelnut inside I wasn’t able taste the strawberries and bananas and overall the actual crepe.”
Teagan also tried the vegan Lovemaker crepe, which did not include nearly as much hazelnut spread which she was more happy with.
Although the staff were friendly, the service was not very good. One member of our party has a severe dairy allergy and when ordering, she made sure to ask for the vegan crepe, even explaining her allergy to the staff. It was printed on my receipt and noted as well.
However, after waiting about twenty minutes for our food, when it came out, we were suspicious. Her vegan plate looked like the regular ones and there was whipped cream on the side. Thus, she double checked with the waiter to ask if there was any dairy in it because of her allergy, and sure enough there was in the whip cream but he’d failed to mention there was any in the crepe itself.
She was still hesitant on taking a bite, so once again she went up to the counter and asked if her crepe had any other dairy products in it, to which the cook replied, “Yes the batter has milk in it.”. She was obviously upset because she had told them previously that she had an allergy and it was not the crepe she’d ordered, since it wasn’t the vegan version (which she had paid extra for).
Although they were kind enough to correct the mistake and make it with the vegan batter and it came out pretty quickly. It was still frustrating, because had we not triple checked, our friend would have suffered the consequences of her allergy.
Overall, the vegan Lovemaker crepe tasted really good and Sabina enjoyed it, as well as the vegan maple milkshake. The flavor of the milkshake was spot on and the consistency was great. Would she go there again? Yes, but she would know she’d have to check the validity of the dairy-free food first.
In terms of the prices, we all agreed that the food and drinks were a little overpriced. Sabina’s total came to about $34.00 including tax, including $7.49 for the espresso milkshake, $8.89 for the vegan maple milkshake, and $3.49 for a medium lemonade. Marissa’s total was $29.51 plus tax, including $14.29 for the Chicken Bacon Rancher crepe and $13.29 for the poutine. And lastly, Teagan paid a total around $26.58 including tax which included two Heartbreaker crepes. The poutine was listed on the menu as a side and was only roughly two dollars less than a single crepe. We unanimously agreed that we went in with high expectations and all left a little disappointed at the prices.
We were also able to get the opinions of a few University of Vermont (UVM) students on the restaurant at their campus’ location.
DHS alumnus Mia MacLean was pleased to see the amount of vegan and vegetarian options available, saying “Usually options are very limited for me but there is quite a bit for me to choose from here. My favorites are the veggie monster and the pesto. I also enjoy their chais but not so much their coffees”.
The students explained that the Skinny Pancake is a big community staple at UVM and it is commonly referred to as “Skinny P” at the college. They told us that Skinny Pancakes has “great vibes” and that they “love the ideology” of the creperie.
All things considered, we enjoyed our experience but there was definitely some complications and mix ups with our orders. However, the quality and taste of our food was great. The question is: would we go here again? And the simple answer is yes!
