Two weeks ago, President Trump sat down for a meeting with the Qatari royal family, after which they offered him a $400 million luxury jet
President Trump’s meeting with the Qatari royal family sparks concerns from American citizens who worry about internal political corruption, and that his acceptance of this plan will buy the family favors with our country’s leader..
The Qatari royal family is only the latest example of an increasingly no-holds-barred atmosphere in Washington under Trump’s second term. Not only would the president be able to use the plane while in office, but he is also expected to transfer it to his presidential foundation once he leaves the White House. Trump’s second administration has been consistently pushing the limits on mixing public affairs and personal benefits. The second Trump administration is also showing its disdain for legal and political guardrails around public service. Examples of this that have occurred in the past include the Trump administration mistakenly deporting a Maryland father to El Salvador’s mega prison “because of an administrative error” and arguing it could not return him because he’s now in Salvadoran custody.
All of these questionable presidential decisions are happening, in part, due to the Supreme Court’s ruling last year, where immunity was granted to presidents for their official actions.
According to The New York Times, because of the fact that President Trump holds the Republican Party and its favor, he need not fear impeachment.
