On Monday, May 19th, the DHS singing group Vocal Alliance was invited to perform at the Massachusetts State House in Boston. The group opened the Hill Day performances.
Hill Day is an advocacy event for the importance of music education.
The group performed at the State House at around 9:30 AM and spent the rest of the day watching other groups perform and enjoying Boston. After their performance, the group received an official citation from the state senate recognizing their performance and contribution to Hill Day.
Vocal Alliance is a selective social justice singing group and consists of six members: juniors Dailin Martinez, Ella Guitard, Kaelin Hampe, Bella Drakos and Piper Brett, and sophomore Brooke Wilichoski. The group’s repertoire consists of songs containing social justice messages, and they frequently perform around Danvers at social justice events such as Light The Night Purple (substance abuse awareness), Prism’s Trans Day of Visibility, Pride, and MLK Day.
The group recently got back from their trip to Hartford, Connecticut, performing at the NAfME (National Association for Music Education) Eastern Division Conference.
Vocal Alliance hopes to expand their performing horizon even more throughout the next year.
