Graduating senior Gianna Parello was a major part of the machine helping The Flying Onion run throughout this past year. Bringing a positive attitude with her every day, Gianna was the driving force behind important articles on emergency local shelter for migrants, the L.A. wildfires, Trump’s initial pause on federal aid, and the most recent Danvers High MCAS data, from last year’s sophomore class. She also helped advise our student body with her article about how students can go about seeking additional financial aid for college.
In addition to her contributions to journalism, Gianna brought with her a mixture of warmth and intelligence to Danvers High. In her time at DHS, she was a member of the girls’ softball team in her freshman and sophomore years (until an injury sidelined her), Gianna then turned this expertise to refereeing elementary school softball teams. Always a champion of social justice causes, Gianna also attended a 2-day conference on leadership and racism in sports, “Don’t Hate the Player: Racism in Sports” Additionally, she served as a member of Best Buddies and Women of the World, where she was an active and friendly presence.
Despite all of these commitments, Gianna balanced her success in her studies, finding the time to hold down a parttime job at Brooksby Village.
Although The Flying Onion will be sad to see Gianna leave, we appreciate all of her efforts and wish her luck next year at Endicott College, where she announces to major in Biology/Premed.
