We are excited to announce that this week’s new “Senior Spotlight” for the Flying Onion is…. Lily Patterson! Lily has worked very hard over these past four years at DHS and has been a role model and a friendly face to all. We want to point out Lily’s accomplishments and how she has contributed to making our school a better place.
To start it off, Lily is involved in many activities here at DHS including Falconize, our field hockey team, and she serves as one of the captains of our swim team.
Lily has been on the team since her freshman year, but has been swimming in a swim club years before that. With loads of experience, Lily was granted the opportunity to become one of the three captions.
Lily talks about her experience being a captain stating, “Being captain of the swim team was so much fun and such a rewarding experience. To be able to now have a leadership role felt amazing.”
Lily also had great experiences as a member of field hockey and Falconize. Her experience with field hockey throughout her high school career was great. Even though the team didn’t have the best season this past year, she feels this was an amazing sport to play. She enjoyed having practices and games with her fellow teammates and overall enjoyed her time playing.
Lily’s also been singing with Falconize for the past two years. She first joined it just to have something to do and be a part of, and did not expect to like it as much as she did, but found she loves it. Lily enjoys singing, especially with the people around her. She’s completed many achievements in this group, including last year, when Falconize went to the ICHSA (International Championship of High School A Capella), a championship where they won the quarter finals.
In addition, Lily is also a member of many clubs including; the National Honors Society (NHS), World Language National Honors Society (WLNHS), as well the National English Honors Society (NEHS) where she serves as president.
With Lily being the president of NEHS, she gets to work with the other officers alongside advisor, Ms. Aste. She also gets to practice her leadership skills, especially within activities involving English. Lily enjoys being a part of this because not only does she want to study ELA when she gets to college, she also has fun with what she does and learns.
English teacher, Ms. Kristina Aste-Mayer talked about Lily as a student.
“Lily Patterson is an amazing scholar, singer, and student-athlete,” Ms. Aste said. “As president of National English Honor Society, she leads with integrity and enthusiasm. Working with her is an absolute delight because she is dependable and kind, always taking the next step in order to excel.”
Aside from her involvement in these clubs, Lily works hard on her independent study which focuses on leadership here at DHS. She constantly helps out with our community blocks, being a “driving force” for us. She also helps design and make the posters around our building
In addition to the videos at our assemblies, Lily helps out with creating the rosters for Passion Projects, our Falcon Fifty project, and many more. Lily shows great leadership within our school and is very dependable and dedicated to the work she does.
With so much going on for her, Lily hasn’t committed to any school yet, but she is looking forward to studying English, mostly on the literature side. We hope Lily finds the perfect college for her and we will all be cheering her on at graduation!
