On Friday March 7th, the freshman enjoyed their first semi-formal at DHS with the theme of Into the Night.
Most students dressed up, wearing dresses and dress shirts. The atrium was lit up while the cafeteria’s lights were turned off and projector lights lit the ceiling up with bright green stars. The DJ, “Spotify” played tunes in the cafeteria, while some students used microphones to sing along.
There was pizza and snacks that were set up on a table near the bathrooms. Dr. Pepper, Diet Coke, Coke, Sprite and water were all near where the breakfast is served in the mornings. Overall, the food was good and most students enjoyed it.
However, several students had negative reviews on the semi-formal. Most attendees had problems with the music and they didn’t like the songs that were played.
However, some attendees focused on the positives, like appreciating spending time with friends and peers.
Emme Vaughan said the dance, “made me realize how it doesn’t matter what the event is like, it’s the people you’re with that makes the experience fun.”
While there were mixed reviews on students attending the dance, there were also some parts that were fun. There was a cornhole game set up in the atrium and there were snacks setup on a table outside of the bathrooms. The decorations were nice, leaning into the theme by including stars that stuck to the windows and tables. The atrium also had tables set up with blue tablecloths over them.
The freshman have two more semi-formals left in their high school career. A lot of students are looking forward to their sophomore semi-formal. Marley Beaulieu said she was looking forward to “dressing up” for next year’s semi. Other freshmen have also expressed their interest for their sophomore semi.
