Kick off the holiday season with the Danvers Historical Society’s 16th Annual Parade of Trees, running from December 4th-8th at Tapley Memorial Hall in Danvers.
At this annual event, 40 carefully and artfully decorated wreaths and faux trees are donated by local families and businesses for the public to enjoy, often with a specific theme in mind and with unusual and fun items.
One fun activity of this event is the Scavenger Hunt, in which children can find particular ornaments that are hidden on the displayed wreaths and trees. A prize is given to children if they try.
All of the trees and wreaths made for this event will be raffled off. Visitors can enter the raffle (tickets are $1 each, with a $10 minimum) to have a chance at winning a beautiful tree or wreath, while also giving back to the community. All proceeds from the raffle tickets and admission fees go towards the Danvers Historical Society, and their effort to preserve and promote the education of Danvers history, through engaging public programs.
Danvers Historical Society member Sheila Cooke-Kayser elaborated on some of the programs these proceeds help fund, including the Danvers Historical Society’s monthly speaker series and the annual ‘Our Town’ third grade program.
“Every Danvers’ third grader attends this program to discover Danvers’ history through the stories of people who lived, worked and played here,” Sheila told us. “The students also examine historical objects once owned by Danvers residents and compare them with similar modern objects used today. In 2023, Danvers’ high school students joined this program and became the on-site educators presenting the hands-on activities to the third graders.”
Proceeds from the Parade of Trees also support preservation projects of historic properties that are owned by Danvers Historical Society, including Glen Magna Farms, the Derby McIntire Summer House, the Page House, and Tapley Memorial Hall.
The address for the Parade of Trees at Tapley Memorial Hall is 13 Page St., Danvers, Ma, and the Parade will be running December 4th-6th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., December 7th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and December 8th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children under 15.
This beautiful display will surely get you into the holiday spirit!
