Over the past three years, The Flying Onion senior Kayda Brown has been a vital part of the writing team.
Through the years, Kayda has written many great articles, on a variety of topics, including AI predicting dementia, expanded airport disease surveillance, the legality of Trump re-running for president, new faces at DHS, internet addiction in youth, the Red Sox, as well as many more well written articles.
While writing for The Flying Onion, Kayda also played an important role during her senior year as co-editor in chief, for the online edition.
In addition, Kayda has been very active throughout DHS, as a part of both the girls’ basketball and lacrosse teams. For basketball, she has played on varsity since her freshman year and has played since she was in fifth grade. She was named NEC All Star in 2024 and 2025 for basketball, where she also served as one of the captains for both her junior and senior years. Kayda also made the Salem News for All-Star her junior year for basketball.
She has also been playing at DHS since her sophomore year, and served as one of the captains on the lacrosse team during her senior year.
Kayda was a part of the Language Honors Society as well as the English Honors Society.
The student council was lucky enough to have Kayda as a member from 10th through 12th grade. She participated weekly in meetings and would help organize school-wide events and activities.
In addition to student council, Kayda has been involved in several extracurricular activities including DECA, Morgan’s Message, and Best Buddies.
Kayda plans to attend the University of Rhode Island to study Business Management.
Even though DHS will miss her, Kayda will leave a lasting impact of kindness, compassion, and leadership.
