Concluding an amazing winter season, the co-op Beverly, Ipswich, Danvers girls hockey team finished their season with a record of 15-5 and the Danvers boys team ended at 10-10-2.
Boys hockey rewarded Drew Godfried, Cooper Dunham, Owen Swanton, Even Morey and Thomas Fish with the NEC all-conference, NEC all star, and MIAA Bruins sportsmanship awards. Girls hockey also rewarded Ashley Fretias with the NEHL All Star and MIAA Bruins sportsmanship award.
Senior Captain Drew Godfried and Senior Cooper Dunham were given the NEC All Conference award. This award is given to players who are the top players in the league and is voted on by opposing teams’ coaches. To conclude his senior season, Godfried ended with 3 goals, 17 assists, and a total of 20 total points. Dunham also finished with 21 goals, 16 assists for a total of 37 points at the end of the season.
The NEC All Star award was awarded to Junior Owen Swanton and goalie Senior Even Morey. The NEC All Star award is the second highest accolade in sports and represents top players with consistent performances across the season. Swanton finished his junior season with 9 goals, 12 assists and a total of 21 points. Morey was also awarded this for his stellar performance in-goal for 8 wins, 2.45 goals against average, 0.90 save percentage and 2 shutouts. The NEHL All Star award was given to Senior Captain Ashley Freitas for an outstanding year totalling 20 points with 3 goals and 10 assists.
Danvers Athletic Director, Andrew Betts, when asked about how both teams should feel about the NEC awards said “I think the groups should feel very proud for their awesome seasons and both teams should feel very accomplished.“
Thomas Fish and Ashley Freitas were also awarded the MIAA Bruins Sportsmanship award. This award is given to players who best represent sportsmanship and the conduct of the rules of the game. The recipients of this award will also be announced and honored at a Bruins game on March 19th.
