After an outstanding season, the girls Beverly Panthers* (15-6) concluded their season on February 26th after a 3-2 loss to the Maldon Catholic Lancers (8-11-2). The game was previously rescheduled to February 26th from February 25th after the Zamboni broke down.
The Zamboni malfunctioned and after thirty minutes of both teams waiting in their locker rooms to begin playing, both the athletic directors and head coaches decided to postpone the game until the Zamboni would be fixed. The rescheduled game was to now be played on February 26th at 7:10 pm, back at the Maldon Valley Forum.
When the Panthers returned to the Forum the next night, the Zamboni went back out to clean the ice and broke down again after just one lap. This caused frustration across both teams and the game was then moved to the Kasabuski ice arena in Saugus for a new time of 8:00 pm.
Concluding a triple overtime and shootout, the Beverly Panthers were eliminated and the Maldon Catholic Lancers moved on to play the Algonquin Regional High School on March 1st, where the Lancers were then defeated 2-1.
*The Beverly Panthers is a co-op team with players from Danvers High School and Ipswich High School.
