Over the past three years, The Flying Onion has had the pleasure of having senior Ella Guitard, as a dedicated member of the staff. Throughout her hard and consecutive work over the years, Ella has become a vital part of our newspaper publication and this year, served as our Co-Editor in Chief for the print edition.
Since joining the class her sophomore year, Ella has consistently shown a passion for journalism and helping with the newspaper. On one of our recent new advice columns, she helped out a great amount with both writing and creating, along with two other writers. She also wrote often about our performing and visual arts here at DHS. Some of her articles included DHS music program’s recent trip to Disney, accomplishments of DHS arts students, the fall production of Hadestown, and many others.
As Co-Editor in Chief for our print edition, Ella played a major role in keeping The Flying Onion running smoothly throughout the school year. She helped create our layouts, proofread others’ articles, and helped guide newer members of the class. She balanced many responsibilities within the class – even fighting with the printer that never worked – and led others on with her leadership.
Outside of journalism, Ella has been involved in many aspects of student life at DHS. With her outstanding vocal skills, she served as president for our a capella group, Skywave, for both her junior and senior year. She was a member of Vocal Alliance, and was in C.E.C (Chorus Executive Committee), where she helped make decisions regarding DHS’ chorus program.
Alongside singing, Ella also had a passion for theater. During her senior year, Ella was a board officer for DHS academy theater society, where within our theater she recently played the following roles: Janis Sarkisian in Mean Girls, Fate 3 in Hadestown, and Jane Seymour in Six. She was also a student assistant at the HRMS theater program where she helped assign the middle school’s cast and crew for their productions.
With so much already going for her, Ella also balanced her academics, and arts, gaining many recognitions and awards. She was in NEHS (National English Honors Society), and Tri-M Music Honor Society, where she earned awards like the Leonard Bernstein Musicianship Award, Danvers Music Bronze Medal, Danvers Music Silver Medal, Chorus Rookie of the Year, Academic Recognition for Excellence in Chorus, and DHS ACTS 2024 Director’s Award for a Lead Actor.
As Ella prepares to graduate, The Flying Onion wants to thank her for her years of hard work. Although we will miss her dearly, we wish her the best of luck in this upcoming fall, when she attends University of New Hampshire, where she will be majoring in social work.
