Since just the beginning of June, a torrent of high-profile gaming conferences showcased reveals of their biggest upcoming projects for fan-favorite franchises, teased long-awaited sequels and unexpected returns, and announced updates to active games.
Sony’s PlayStation kicked things off with a one-hour State of Play, which had a focus on God of War: Laufey, Wolverine, Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls, Rayman Legends Retold, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Until Dawn 2.
Host and creator of both The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, Geoff Keighley’s flagship event, Summer Game Fest, featured a massive list of news, featuring titles such as Final Fantasy 7 Revelation (a remake), new characters for Street Fighter 6, Attack on Titan 3, a second year of Sonic Racing Crossworlds DLC collab tracks and characters, Among Us Story: On Guard, Star Wars: Zero Company, Virtua Fighter: Crossroads, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Fortnite Season 3: Runners which added John Wick, Stranger Than Heaven, Alien Isolation 2, and Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
The Xbox Games Showcase included several long-awaited sequels from classic gaming staples and hit JRPG’s (Japanese Role-Playing Games) like Persona 6, Spyro: A Realm Beyond, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, Persona 4: Revival, and Halo: Combat Evolved.
Paramount founded the new Paramount Games Studio on the day of Summer Game Fest, highlighting two major titles for its IP’s (Intellectual Properties) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin and Star Trek: Shadow Frontier.
IGN hosted an IGN Live but had little to contribute in the wake of how saturated the rest of the market had become. It mostly consisted of convention-like panels and interviews instead of game announcements.
The rumoured Nintendo Direct became a reality soon after, with a heavy-hitting plethora of new and old titles, particularly The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake, Kingdom Hearts IV, Final Fantasy XIV, Deltarune Chapter 5, Splatoon Raiders, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, Final Fantasy Resonance, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, Xenoblade Genesis & Switch 2 Editions of previous games in the series, Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition, Pokemon Pokopia, and One Piece: Grand Gourmet.
Despite the massive passionate demand, speculation, and predictions from fans, Destiny 3, a potential third installment in a popular sci-fi live-service shooter game series, was not confirmed or announced at any of the aforementioned showcases, disappointing the army of fans who spammed the same hopeful online image on every comment or replies section relating to it. Neither was there any mention of the highly anticipated, but confirmed GTA VI.
However, be on the lookout for the other games, most of which will likely be releasing in late-2026 through mid-2027.
