Earlier this month, DHS had 136 DECA students who had advanced to the State Career Develop Conference held at the Sheraton Hotel in Boston.
Starting with a spectacular performance of the National Anthem by Brooke Wilichoski, many of our students successfully competed in their categories and are now moving onto the National Competition hosted in Anaheim, California.
Some of our top five groups that will be progressing to nationals include Tabitha Sears (for Project Management Community Awareness/PMCA), the team of Bryce Clark, Giovanna Rodrigues, and Madison Wescott- (Financial Literacy/PMFL), the team of William Brooks, Olivia Ferullo, and Gabrielle Griffin-Fetsch (PMFL), the team of sisters Lily and Mia Delafano, and Julien Joseph (Sales Project/PMSP), and the team of Cat Angelopolus, Marco Bettencourt, and Megan Evans- (Independent Business Plan/EIB).
Since November, students have been working hard to prepare and practice for their presentations. DECA teachers Ms. Meghan Beaulieu and Mr. Brent Gebel worked very hard to help prepare these students for Boston, including listening to their presentations, editing their papers, and being overall cheerleaders for them.
One of our juniors that moved onto nationals, Maddie Wescott, expressed how she felt about DECA and what her and her group members did each day to get to where they stand now.
“My group members and I worked day in and day out to ensure that our project was impactful and valuable,” Maddie said. “We have been so fortunate to not only win first place at districts, but also now at states and now moving on to Nationals. This journey has been so valuable. We hope to continue improving and bring home glass!” We are incredibly proud of the hard work Maddie’s and other groups put into their projects.
Mr Gebel also shares his experience at DECA states, “I’m proud of all the students. They enjoyed themselves, they were great representatives of Danvers high school, and I’m just really excited about the continued success of the program and hopefully we will do really well at nationals.”
Our students here at Danvers high school overall put an enormous amount of time and effort to make it to where they stand right now. We are beyond proud of the students who represented DHS last weekend and we will be wishing those who moved on the best of luck at Nationals.
