The popular mystery sci-fi series, Stranger Things, officially released the first part of its three-part fifth and final season over the Thanksgiving weekend. Specifically, episodes one to four were released, and they have fans wondering what’s next for our favorite kids in Hawkins? (SPOILERS AHEAD).
This first-season release picks right up after the chaotic cliffhanger at the end of season four. The town of Hawkins is still cracking open with gates connecting to the Upside Down (the alternative universe where evil thrives), the main demon Vecna is still free and ready for trouble, and the town is still in danger. The main group of teenagers are left dealing with the destruction Vecna has caused and are working to save the town they once knew.
This release has been great so far and brings the mystery and wonder fans need. Although Max is still in her coma (brought on by Vecna), with her mind trapped in an alternate world, she later makes a surprise appearance when she’s met by Nancy’s and Mike’s little sister Holly, who is kidnapped by a demigorgon (a demon monster that works for Vecna to be delivered to Henry (the human form of Vecna).
But, the mystery is not the only thing keeping fans hooked. This last season brings new developments. For example, Will, who has been connected to Vecna and the Upside Down since the very beginning, has started to adapt extra powers. Now, he can not only sense when Vecna is near, but he can also see through the eyes of both Vecna and his targets, which helps the gang know Vecna’s next moves. Episode four also ends on a shocking note when Will and his friends are being attacked by demogorgons and it reveals these ‘upcoming’ powers Will has. The group, including him, discover in a moment of panic that he is able to control and command these demogorgons, taking control and being able to stop them in a brutal way.
Overall, Season five has brought the intensity and change viewers needed. Fans have waited so long for the new season to come out, and it certainly seems to be living up to their expectations. Ending on such a suspenseful cliffhanger, it still leaves viewers desperate for more.
The series has announced that three more episodes will be released on Christmas day, and that the final episodes will be released on New Years Eve – so it looks like fans will have to wait to see what happens next.
