On Saturday March 28th, an estimated nine million organizers across the country went out in protest of the Trump administration. Locally, hundreds of protesters gathered and filled Rantoul Street in Beverly.
Many protesters shared a long list of complaints, including the mass deportation attempts and the strong deterioration of democracy.
The Beverly protest was organized by Hands Off Beverly, an organization whose mission is to protest and take a stand against the Trump administration. They believe that the Trump administration has undemocratic policies which pose a threat to America and its values.
There were more than 160 rallies in Massachusetts, and although it was extremely cold out, the Beverly protesters stood out for multiple hours holding signs, keeping their tradition of going out each Saturday and Wednesday to make a stand against an administration they don’t like.
Massachusetts Attorney General, Andrea Joy Campell, attended the rally in Boston where she gave a speech, mentioning, “We have filed 53 lawsuits against this Trump administration.”
Because of the various groups who have had their funding cut by the Trump administration, Attorney General Campbell and her team have taken legal actions to try to protect food assistance, public schools, reproductive health, and mental health services for kids.
The administration’s decisions are currently going through a great deal of scrutiny by many foundations, organizations, and those who have been directly affected by the cuts. The protests have shown to be a strong way for people to take a stand against a much larger issue in the country.
