On April 2nd, President Donald Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The primary reason behind the sudden oust is due to Bondi’s handling of the controversial release of files regarding late sex offender Jefferey Epstein. In early 2025, prior to the files’ official release, Bondi openly criticized the lack of transparency in the government’s case against Epstein, claiming she had a “client list” of Epstein associates sitting on her desk yet to be released.
In February of 2025, Bondi gave select MAGA influencers binders containing what she claimed to be the “first phase” of the Epstein files, however these binders consisted of all already publicly available documents.
Later that month, in a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel, Bondi requested all withheld Epstein documents and demanded an investigation be opened on why they had not been already delivered to her, contradicting her previous claim that she has a complete client list “on her desk.”
In July of 2025, after receiving the withheld documents, the Department of Justice (DOJ), headed by Bondi, released a statement saying “[Our] systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list'” and “no further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted.”
In December of 2025, the DOJ officially released a heavily redacted version of the Epstein files, criticized by the public for its excessive censorship.
However, things came to an official boiling point this past February, when Bondi appeared in a hearing before the House Oversight Committee. During this appearance, Bondi was extremely combative when pressed by lawmakers about the DOJ’s handling of the Epstein files. Specifically, Bondi rejected a request made by Representative Pramila Jayapal to apologize to Epstein victims, due to the DOJ’s misconduct. The explosive nature of this hearing resulted in unprofessional shouting matches and name-calling between both parties.
After this disastrous appearance, Bondi faces a subpoena to testify again later this month.
On April 1st, President Trump informed Bondi of his decision to replace her in a White House meeting. Bondi is set to be temporarily replaced with Deputy Attorney General Tom Blache.
The President assures Bondi will retain a role in his administration, posting on Truth Social: “Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend— she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future.”
Bondi is the second cabinet member to be removed in the past few weeks, as last month head of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, was also replaced.
