A new authentic French bakery, The Bread Basket, has recently opened its doors on Elm Street in Danvers.
We visited the bakery last week to see what it has to offer. At first glance, the space is small, but cozy, and was located in an easily accessible area. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the worker behind the counter, which created a welcoming feel. The display case immediately caught our attention, filled with an assortment of pastries and breads that looked fresh.
In terms of the baked goods, there were a lot of options, and the prices were overall fairly affordable. We ordered a chocolate chip cookie for $4.00, sour dough loaf for $13.00, a croissant for $4.00, a loaf of braided sugar brioche for $12.00 and a fruit tart for $6.00. Each item was fresh and flavorful. Our personal favorite was the sour dough, which had a nice outer crust and a soft interior. Overall, the prices for the bakery felt reasonable considering the freshness and quality of the products.
A senior from Danvers High School, Lincoln Smith, shared his opinion on his chocolate chip cookie,
“The creaminess of the cookie could cure all worries, stresses, and sadness just from one bite,” said Lincoln. “It is filling, gooey, and a bite of warm goodness; truly it is baked with love and desire.”
Along with Lincoln, many of our Flying Onion writers enjoyed the varieties of bread as well as the fruit tart, they explained that they were perfectly baked and tasted very good. With many good reviews, clearly these pastries are well made and baked with care.
The only complaint we have for the Bread Basket was the tightly packed space, we wish there was a little more space for seating. The capacity of the bakery cannot comfortably fit many people – it started to feel cramped with at least five people ordering. The bakery is a very narrow space which created some difficulty for viewing options in the display case. Although, since it’s a new space, we can assume changes will be made along the way.
Overall, The Bread Basket is a very promising new addition to our town. Our rating for the bakery is a soaring nine-out-of-ten stars. We were very pleased with our visit and would definitely go back. We are also recommending our Flying Onion readers to visit and try it out for themselves!
