This past Tuesday, our Danvers unified basketball team hosted their first game against Lynnfield at DHS. This game got the whole community of Danvers together with an astounding and hyped up crowd.
Although the game ended up with the score of 47-44, Lynnfield, the Danvers team showed a lot of team spirit and support. And the crowd did not disappoint, with many cheering along with the game, as well as performances by Vocal Alliance, and the talents of the DHS band and cheerleaders as the backdrop. Our football and soccer teams also showed, along with many other students, faculty members and families.
DHS student Chris Harris made two incredible shots, hyping up the crowd after each basket. “It was pretty incredible, at the time I started playing basketball last month in September. I always really liked to play basketball even though I do baseball, ” said Harris
Other amazing performances included Riley Vogel, Elvy Garvin, Ciara O’Connell, Manny Dias-Rojas, Lexi Millerek-Martinez, and Nashant Patel. Player Zach McLoughlin also made two amazing shots with the help of Ms. Camryn Holt and so many other students.
Our student section showed incredible support to every student who scored and it was great to see everyone have a fair chance on the court. Some other athletes at DHS who played on the team included, making sure everyone was included, were students Emmett Marchant, Jake Preston, Evan Morey, Jack Curcuru, Ben Campbell, Sean O’Connell, Reece Leshin, and Lucy Osborne.
Ms. Holt, an instructional assistant for our Life Skills program here at DHS, talked to us about her experience,
“Helping out the kids is something that is extremely important to me.” She added, “This game was definitely a very rewarding feeling. I cried a lot – a lot of happy tears. The feeling I had felt while playing with them in the moment was honestly a different kind of experience that I can’t really form into words.”
Overall, this game was lots of fun and filled with so much kindness and energy. Students should get ready for the rest of this season and continue to show this team some support at their games. It’s going to be an exhilarating season!
