October 17th, The Danvers boys’ soccer team dominated Salem with 6-1 win. This win put the Falcons one win away from their second straight playoff run after a seven year drought.
The first half was close, with both teams trading chances on goal. Senior Luca Tirella opened up the scoring for the Falcons late in the first half. Salem managed to tie it up before halftime, sending the game into the break at 1-1. But once the Falcons came back, fans could tell something was different. At that point, the Falcons completely took over. Their play sharpened, their energy revived, Salem just could not keep up.
Tirella then led the way with three more goals, taking over the game and earning a place as a Boston Globe Player of the Week. Freshman Andrew Morse scored his first varsity goal of his high school career, and Senior Luke Hertigan added another. Senior Gianluca Locilento also made an impressive impact with three assists, allowing the Falcons to maintain an offensive rhythm.
With one game left in the season before the postseason, Danvers now sits just one win away from securing another playoff run. In this game, against Bishop Fenwick, DHS will be looking to end with a win and carry this momentum into the playoffs.*
