With the end of the first quarter and winter’s arrival– Danvers High School’s annual open house is upon us. The open house will be held on November 19th from 6-8 at the high school. It is an opportunity for upcoming 9th graders to be able to tour the school and for parents to get a look into their children’s potential future education.
The event will begin at 6:00 pm as guests are expected to meet in the auditorium, where brief remarks will be made by Principal Alan Strauss. Also in the auditorium seven seniors will recount their stories of Danvers High School, and the cast of Hadestown will sing a musical teaser.
From the auditorium guests will make their way around the building, led by DHS’ own student community leaders. Guests will be escorted by one of the leaders to the “Main Events,” being hosted in the field house, the Vye gym, and applied arts classrooms.
There will also be advocacy groups in the cafeteria such as: PRISM (DHS’ Gender and Sexuality Alliance), the Multicultural Club, and Women of the World. The advocacy groups will be a great opportunity to learn more about these clubs and what they have to offer. Refreshments from Texas Roadhouse will also be provided throughout the whole night in the cafeteria.
In the field house and Vye gym teachers and students will be staffing tables as well as hosting presentations for visitors. The Vye gym will primarily offer a view of extracurricular activities, like clubs, sports and even health and wellness activities, while the field house will offer a glimpse into academics: core subjects, honor societies, AP classes, internships and more.
Principal Alan Strauss shares, “Open house is an important opportunity for staff and students to share with 5th to 8th grade parents, as well as others, the amazing things that are happening here everyday.” He also says, “If someone is going to tell the story of Danvers High it should be those who know what transpires daily. Parents have choices as to where to send their children and Danvers High is in so many ways the best choice. We simply need to ensure we let people know that.”
Teachers and students work immensely hard in order for the night to be a success – so let’s show all our gratitude and join them in seeing all our school has to offer.
Following the open house, during the school day on November 20th, there will also be visits from 8th grade students. This year, rather than going to HRMS, all 8th grade students will be brought to DHS for a presentation and a modified open house following our open house the night prior. With all 300 8th graders in the building, they’ll be brought to the auditorium, gym, and tour the school to get a sense of what DHS is all about.
