Our next Senior Spotlight features the one and only Isabella (Bella) Drakos. Her creativity and knowledge of the arts has always made her essential to the art and music programs here at Danvers High School, and her dedication to schoolwork and extracurriculars always inspires those around her.
Bella is the pitchpipe and music director for Skywave, the treble a cappella group at Danvers High School. She’s also a member of Vocal Alliance, the selective social justice singing group here at the school. Vocal Alliance frequently performs at events around Danvers, such as the Martin Luther King Day celebration and Trans Day of Visibility, and also travels to music conferences and events around New England.
She is also an officer for DHS ACTS (Academy Theatre Society), and most recently performed in the fall musical, Hadestown. She is often called out during rehearsals for her commitment to her practice. Bella is also currently in the process of writing the winter play, which will be performed at a competitive program called the METG (Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild) High School Drama Festival.
Bella is the treasurer of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the president of the National Art Honor Society. She is also a member of both the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society.
Bella works weekends at the Danvers Art Association, teaching art classes for first through third graders. She also has a seasonal summer job at Honeycomb Bakery and Cafe, where she works in their ice cream truck.
She also participates in many plays and musicals outside of school. Most recently, she has played Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre in Spelling Bee, and she is preparing to play The Witch in Into the Woods, both with the company TTS (That’s The Spirit).
Bella is also cast in a play called Terezin, a travelling educational play that combats hate and spreads awareness about the holocaust. In this play, Bella plays Miriam Fischer.
“Bella is one of the realest people I know,” commented senior Dailin Martinez, one of Bella’s good friends. “She always tells things as they are, and doesn’t stray away from her opinions. She’s also extremely dedicated, especially in the performing arts.”
Mr. Jeffrey Surette, one of the art teachers at Danvers High School, also had great things to say about Bella.
“Bella is an amazing student, wonderful artist, and huge people person. I’m very very fortunate to have her in class. She’s doing a fantastic job at uniting the visual arts with musical performances.”
Bella is hoping to attend Emerson for Theater arts next fall. The Flying Onion wishes her good luck in all her college pursuits and to break a leg in all her upcoming performances.
