DHS girls basketball just took the win over Beverly last Monday. The girls won with a 59-46 lead after a slow start in the first half. Now at 6-1, the team is ready to take on Peabody tomorrow night (Friday, 1/16).
Senior captain Angie Djoko reflected on the season to date.
“It’s been a good season so far, but last Monday’s game was a great win and I couldn’t be more proud of the girls.”
Another senior captain, Lila Flynn, added, “The game was a good competition against Beverly, and taking home the win felt great and overall happy with how the team played.”
An overall great season so far for the team, their only loss has been against Hamilton-Wenham. With a 26-21 loss over the winter break in their Annual Winter Tournament, the girls were extremely disappointed.
Their Annual Winter Tournament took place over the winter break, where DHS hosted teams including Essex Technical, Hamilton-Wenham, and Swampscott. As part of the tournament, Danvers lost to Hamilton-Wenham, who then went on to win over Swampscott High School and ultimately won the tournament.
Starting point guard, junior Annabel Boyd, added, “We’ve had a great start; we work very well together as a team and I am very excited for the rest of the season.”
Last Thursday, Danvers’ Girls Basketball enjoyed another win over their rivalry team, Masconomet, with a final score of 58-29. Leading scorer senior captain Angie Djoko finished the night with 21 points and 20 rebounds.
Head coach David Chisholm left that game with an ear-to-ear grin. In congratulating his players, he told them,”I couldn’t be more proud. We’ve been waiting for this.”
The girls hope to see everyone there at Peabody High tomorrow night at 7:00 to support DHS girls basketball!
